New York Parties, Local DJs and Justin Carter.

Being a local DJ and promoter in New York can be a labor of live at times. Despite what many say and write New York is a great place for dance music. After all the culture was invented here and although we're 20 years in from those ground-breaking times the history and heritage still hangs in the air from PS1 in Queens to Santos Party House in Tribeca. But one must tread carefully as the recipes and models used for parties and events in Europe don't necessarily translate here (though try telling that to some booking agents!).

New York has to be treated right and in accordance with the tastes and whims of the local market. What this means is that local dance parties featuring local talent needs variety and a bolstering force from generally out of town or noteworthy talent. Local heroes like JDH and Dave P, Bryan Kasenic, Sleepy & Boo and the Blk Market Membership guys have created a model in this style which works but with an individual stamp which makes those parties unique in their own right. Its a similar model to that of Mister Saturday Night, Prime Time, FUN and Sunday Best parties I've work with over the past couple of years. And it seems to work..

I strongly believe that some of the local talent we have here rivals some of the international talent which promoters and some of these local DJs bring in to the city on a weekly basis. In addition to the aforementioned DJs/promoter shout outs go to My Cousin Roy, Runaway, Prince Language, Duane Harriot, Eric Cloutier, DJ Lindsay, DJ Spun, James Friedman, Small $hange, Derek Plasaiko and the No Ordinary Monkey fellas for their incredible taste and capabilities.

One gent who I believe has sat below certain radars in recent year is my New Release partner Justin Carter. He is a man who is happy working the engine room of any party production or club without pushing his own DJing and musical influence and I think his abilities on the 1s and 2s are unduly understated and hold their own amongst the local peer group.

So I thought why the hell not use this humble platform to provide a little spotlight and feature a recent mix from the man himself recorded to promote (but until now now not used) our Mister Saturday Night party.
