STACEY PULLEN - THE KOSMIK MESSENGER

Prime Time is back at LOVE this Friday, January 30th, with another dance music forefather, the Kosmik Messenger, Stacey Pullen.

Under the stewardship for the belleville 3 (May, Atkins & Sauderson) Stacey Pullen emerged as the next innovator in the second wave of Detroit Techno and has risen to be a star of the genre DJing the world and dropping material on Transmat, KMS, R&S, Metroplex and his own Black Flag imprint as well as turning in edition 14 of the long standing Fabric mix CD series and more recently an excellent podcast for Resident Advisor.

Here's a quick chat I had with him...

What have you been up lately?

Traveling as ambassador for my city, my remix for Jonny White's Dominatrix is out, in the studio making new tracks and re-releasing my blackflag label and executive producing an artist on my label.

Derrick May seems to have been a significant influence in your early career and musical progression. What does Derrick's music and place in techno mean to you?

Derrick influenced me to be artist first and not to get caught up in the industry. Timeless music will stand the test of time and we have had a career of longevity.

How do you see the current state of the techno scene?

With artist's like Dubfire and the likes that are pushing the boundaries with quality techno, it's helping give it a rebirth and a little more mass appeal.

What's in store for you in 2009?

Studio studio studio!! i have a mix comp that i'm working on with 20/20 vision and then one with Gene Farris as well as original productions from myself.

What can we expect from your gig in NY next week?

Bringing the heat on the dancefloor and making you body move to the groove.

i'm always excited to play NY!!!

It is like the 313 list. A few heads still can not get over the fact that "Detroit" techno have blown up. Techno have gone global. Grasping at some kind of elitest view about music.

Just ask Derrick, Juan, Kevin, Jeff, Omar-S, C2, Mad Mike, etc..............

Stacey is no longer doing his
"Silent Phase" shit. It is 2009, not 1995.
