I tend to jot around music genres, delving deeper as intuition and interest takes me. Of late I've been on a real house music tip gobbling up as many old 12s on eBay as I can get my hands on. Specifically I've been listening to American House music - Chicago, New York and New Jersey jams from the beginnings on Trax and DJ International to the Strictly Rhythm early 90s stuff. The rawer more primitive sounds of the productions are really appealing to me.
It's interesting to note that some of these artists went to produce much more slick and saccharine music as advances in technology opened up their production options. The essence of what made the sound great was lost in my humble opinion...
For the latest edition of my Viva Radio show I recorded a special mix of some of my favorite old house tracks.
